War by Gabe Markworth

Podcast: A social justice poem about war.

War. How we change.

there was a decorated general with
a heart of gold, that likened him to
all the stories he told
of past battles, won and lost, and
legends of old a seasoned veteran in
his own time

on the battlefield, he gained
respectful fame with many medals
of bravery and stripes to his name
he grew a beard as soon as he could
to cover the scars on his face
and always urged his men on

So dear rich people quit being so damn stingy, Help a brother out!

Final Blog Post Poem

We are haunted by the past,
stuck by choices made before,
now the suppressed are suffering,
and are torn apart by war

These problems could be fixed,
if only the government could agree
not to build new stadiums,
but something to make the trapped people free

And all the while while people suffer
because of frightful history,
our water is being stolen,
a problem few people really see

Past pain present now,
evidence is clear,
must learn from mistakes forgotten,
and fix first issues near

Government buying stupid things,
selfish things no one needs,
must speak out against these outrages,
and prune away the weeds

Water is precious resource for all,
bought by greedy hands,
becomes unusable for public,
must give water back to land
